How to Remove Rust
Here is a quick and scientific way to remove rust.
Please use caution and ALWAYS UNPLUG CHARGER BEFORE TOUCHING METAL IN WATER! Water and electrical current can be deadly so use proper care when doing this procedure!!!!
Items needed:
- Plastic Bucket
- Battery Charger
- Baking Soda
- Electrode
To remove rust from small items electrolysis can be used.
If you remember back to science class (provided you were not reading your Hot Rod magazine during this class)
a simple way to remove rust is to provide a current and the rust will move with the electrical current.
To get a current flow fill your plastic bucket with water. Add about a tablespoon of baking soda per gallon to the water.
Once current is started adding more soda will not make it go faster.
Put the object into the water with the NEGATIVE lead on it.
Now put in your electrode which could be a nail, screw, or any piece of metal. Stainless steel works the best.
Attach the POSITIVE lead to the "electrode".
Now just turn on the battery charger and watch the rust go away.
Be sure and dry object quickly after removal. A hair dryer works well for this.
