How to Remove a Trans Am, Firebird, or Camaro Shifter

  1.  Set emergency brake and chock wheels.

  2. Remove console.

  3. Remove four bolts holding shifter to floor

  4. Disconnect shifter cable.

  5. Reverse and re-install

Some Firebird, Trans Am, and Camaro cars with automatic were equipped with a "slapstick" shifter. With these shifters from 1st gear you can push it up at a 45 degree angle and the shifter will only move one gear. The factory slapstick shifters are completely interchangable with the non-slapstick shifters. Also a great choice for your T/A is the Hurst Dual Gate "His and Hers" shifters.
