How to Remove Trans Am, Firebird or Camaro Console

  1. Disconnect NEGATIVE battery cable.

  2. Engage emergency brake and choke wheels.

  3. Remove four screws that hold the plate on the shifter. (You did engage the emergency brake and choke wheels right) Place car in neutral

  4. Remove two bolts at the front of the console that bolt it to the dash.

  5. Remove screws inside console box and lift out box.

  6. Remove two bolts that hold console to floor

  7. If equipped with power windows disconnect and remove power window switch (there is a clip under the console)

  8. Remove four screws that hold the plate on the shifter. (You did engage the emergency brake and choke wheels right) Place car in neutral and you should be able to maneuver the console out with the plate still around the gear shift, if not carefully pry off the button in the knob and use snap ring pliers to remove grip ring and shift knob on automatic transmission equipped cars.

  9. Reverse and re-install.
